Abstract.
The aim of the research is to identify the compositional and stylistic features of the murals "City Builders of Petersburg" (1986) by V. P. Gusarov and V. G. Lekanov in the foyer of the Leningrad branch of the Central Institute for Advanced Training (currently the branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy). The article presents formal-stylistic and iconographic analyses that make it possible to establish the compositional techniques through which the synthesis of painting with the architectural space of the foyer is constructed, where the mural is organically integrated due to its rhythmic and color design. The scientific novelty of the study lies in examining the technological features of executing the mural: it has been established that the artwork was created using the technique of encaustic on marble and represents a rare example in Soviet monumental art of the 1980s. The stages of creating the mural are described. The result of the study is a detailed description of the mural "City Builders of Petersburg" by V. P. Gusarov and V. G. Lekanov as a significant work of the Leningrad school of monumental and decorative painting of the 1970s-1980s, alongside the identification of its compositional features determined by the technique of execution.
