Abstract. The aim of this study is to bring the name of the artist Nikolai Romanovich Simachev (1927-1996) to the attention of the academic community by defining his role in the development of both Russian and global ballet. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of Simachev’s contribution to the evolution of 20th-century ballet performance and choreographic pedagogy. Specifically, it examines his career as a performer of classical and character dances, a teacher, a coach (repetiteur), and a choreographer. The study’s scientific novelty lies in the systematization and theoretical generalization of the process by which the artist’s performance style was formed. For the first time, a close link is demonstrated between Simachev’s pedagogical and coaching principles and the specific characteristics of his own performance practice. The significance of his creative legacy is substantiated as a benchmark of professionalism in the development of the Russian school of ballet performance. Key features of Simachev’s work include the harmonious blend of folk-stage dance virtuosity and the rigorous classical school – manifested in his creation of stage characters – as well as a unique coaching method aimed at revealing the individuality of the artists.
