Knowing the Basics of Information Technologies as a Prerequisite for Admission to Civil Engineering University

Abstract. The study aims to justify reasonability and necessity of introducing an additional entrance exam in Informatics at civil engineering universities taking into account the increased requirements to the level of future civil engineers’ information and communication competence. The authors describe an electronic informational environment and information and communication educational technologies in M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University. The paper emphasizes the growing role of information and communication technologies aimed at the formation of a future civil engineer’s information culture. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the authors justify the necessity to develop future applicants’ information competence taking into account impetuous penetration of modern information and communication technologies into engineering education. Analysing statistical data on the results of the Unified State Informatics Exam and the Basic State Informatics Exam in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the authors conclude on reasonability of introducing an additional entrance exam in Informatics for training direction 08.03.01 “Construction”.
