Interaction with parents of children attending children’s health improvement camps as a direction of professional activity for counselors

Abstract.
The aim of the present study was to identify the necessity of developing interaction skills between camp counselors and parents in children’s health improvement camps, based on the analysis of parents’ perceptions of the interaction process among the subjects of the educational process in such camps. The article analyzes sources related to the pedagogical interaction between parents and counselors working in children’s health improvement camps. The scientific novelty of the work lies in defining the concept and describing the interaction process between counselors and parents, in the structure of which the authors distinguish the cognitive component (including mutual recognition and mutual understanding), the emotive component (including relationships), and the regulatory component (including mutual actions and mutual influence). This constitutes an important aspect of the professional activity of counselors as subjects of the educational process in children’s camps. A survey was conducted among parents whose children stayed in children’s health improvement camps in the Sverdlovsk region in 2024 to determine their attitudes and describe their experience of interaction with counselors. The results showed that not all components identified by the authors are present in actual parent-counselor interactions; nevertheless, the majority of parents expressed satisfaction with their interaction with counselors, while also initiating suggestions to improve the quality of counselors’ communication within the informational field. Respondents consider the ability to convey necessary information accurately and concisely to parents as one of the most important skills. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding the essence of interaction by all subjects of the educational process and considering parents’ opinions for maximizing the effectiveness of interaction during the health improvement campaign in the camp. The mechanism for developing interaction skills may be the recommendations presented in the article and the authors’ educational board game “Allies: Counselors and Parents”, based on the sequence of components-stages of mutual recognition, mutual understanding, relationships, mutual actions, and mutual influence.
