Abstract. Diaries represent a unique genre of literature. The originality of the manner of narration, typical for the given genre, is reflected at the language level. Being a version of autobiographical prose, diaries are aimed at the expression of an author's personality, his private world. Composite features and basic genre characteristics of a diary determine the selection of lexico-semantic, grammatic, syntactic and stylistic means and methods aimed at depicting the image of an author-storyteller.
