Abstract. In the article the legends about the Baikal Lake, about nature objects, clans and tribes connected with it by their origin are considered. The author marks such peculiarity of these narrations as the accentuation of the lake holiness, the sacrality of nearby territory. While studying these works the motive reference developed by N. A. Krinichnaya is used. The narrations in which such type of the motive as the origin of these or those objects connected with the activity of mythical ancestors can be met more often.
