Abstract.
The author considers the theoretical and practical issues of regional toponymy in modern linguistics, researches the geographical names of highland part of the Republic of Tatarstan in historical-linguistic aspects, subjects them to contrast-comparative, grammatical analysis, and pays special attention to the classification of their word formation and revelation of etymology of villages names with opaque semantics.
