Abstract.
For a long time the proverbs and sayings world has attracted the attention of many scientists, experts in folklore and literature. Proverbs and sayings were included in multi-genre folklore collections, were published as separate books. The author studies the history of proverbs and sayings collection and the ways of their systematization in the collections and dictionaries of different types and purposes, aims to give a brief review of the main Anglo-American, Russian and Tatar lexicographical publications of proverbs and sayings, from which study any contrastive research of proverbs and sayings starts.
