“TOPICAL INTERESTS” AND WITTY REMARKS ON CURRENT TOPICS (BY THE MATERIAL OF AMERICAN ENTERTAINMENT SHOWS)

Abstract. The author discusses the “topical interests” and current topics, which are the basis for witty remarks and jokes in the American entertainment shows, pays special attention to the subject matter, ridiculed images and satirical commentaries of the presenters of such shows and their guests, and substantiates that the important aspect is the interaction between the American culture, current events in the country and the world and the mass media discourse, in particular the television discourse and humour, which is topical today.
