POLYSEMY AND CREATION OF STYLISTIC EFFECT

Abstract.
The article distinguishes between the notions of vagueness, ambiguity, and their connection with homonymy and polysemy. The role of different contexts in the origin of new meanings is considered, and the notion of cognitive-pragmatic antagonism in the distribution of a polysemantic word is introduced. It turns out that as a result of contexts collision and crossing of frames the creation of stylistic devices is possible, indicating the important role of polysemy in the generation of text expressiveness.
