Abstract. In this article the author reveals the correlation of speaker’s and recipient’s pragmatics in the perception of elliptical sentences. The success of speech communication depends on the ability to identify the personal features of communicants, and in accordance with it to make one’s own remarks in the most optimal form under these circumstances. The topicality of the question under study is conditioned by the fact that elliptical constructions are rather frequent in the works of fiction of the German authors. The purpose of this paper is to trace the process of communication in which an interlocutor filters out an inappropriate frame for the proper understanding of utterance.
