Abstract. The article presents an overview of morphological means of the expression of nouns number singularia and pluralia tantum in the modern English and German languages. Special attention is paid to the features of expressing the category of number of proper and collective nouns. The study results of the various types of semantic and grammatical motivation within these groups are presented.
