Abstract. The article is devoted to the features of presenting the surrounding space in two Byzantine hagiographic texts: the life of St. Grigentius (the X th century) and the life of St. Nikon the Metanoeite (the XI th century). The research leads to the conclusion that the authors of the texts under consideration describe space in different ways. It contradicts our normal idea about both medieval literature and stereotyped perception of the world by medieval people.
