Abstract.
The article considers the representations of V. A. Bogoroditskii and G. Schuchardt on the origin of human language. It is ascertained that both scientists considered the problem of language origin from the culturological point of view. The similarity of their views on the nature of the first words is shown. However, the differences in syntactic theories of the Russian and Austrian linguists are demonstrated.
