Abstract.
The article is dedicated to investigating the specifics of interpretation and perception of ideas and creative work of F. Nietzsche by American literary criticism of the end of XIX - beginning of the XX century by J. G. Huneker and H. L. Mencken. To the opinion of the author of the article, the interpretations of Nietzsche by J. G. Huneker and H. L. Mencken present themselves classic models for the first ‘philological’ stage of the understanding of the heritage of the German thinker and poet and played an important role in the formation of artistic and esthetic world-view of many representatives of American clerisy at the turn of the century.
