“THAWING SNOW” BY V. ASTAF'EV AND STEREOTYPES OF “INDUSTRIAL NOVEL”

Abstract.
The article reveals the connection of V. Astaf’ev’s early prose with “industrial literature”. The first Astaf’ev’s novel is interpreted as based on industrial conflict, imitative to a large extent, but indicating “industrial literature” canons mastering by the unexperienced writer. Special attention is paid to the genre features of the industrial novel, its hero’s specificity, conflict, events, and connections with the predominant ideology of the 1950s. The author states that the experience of this novel will manifest itself in the writer’s mature prose in regarding the subject “man of labour”, the desolate wandering hero.
