Abstract. In the article the issue of the use of home reading for students' self-guided work while studying the English language in a non-linguistic higher education establishment is considered. Home reading is an effective means of students' self-guided work which can be used at different stages of teaching a foreign language. The author gives examples of tasks for self-guided reading.
