Abstract.
In the article the author makes an attempt to reveal types of context in V. M. Garshin's short stories and to analyze them in the aspect of the writer's creativity. There are three types of context (biographical, literary, historical) in V. M. Garshin's prose. Just the predominance of the biographical context allows seeing the confessional nature and the autobiographical character of the stories through which the writer continues communicating with a reader narrating his feelings and senses.
