Abstract.
In the article the main ways of formation of telescopic lexical units as a means of emotional influence on a reader for the purpose of attracting attention and creating an original, catchy image are considered. The authors draw main attention to two types of telescopic words such as stylistically neutral and stylistically coloured. The examples from modern French information sources are given and the functioning of portmanteau words in the language of mass media is analyzed in the work.
