Abstract.
Studying an allophonic variation of the English vowels by the material of a spontaneous speech allows identifying a number of special features which differ cardinally from the data of literary sources. The article touches on the realization of the English back vowel /u/ in the American and Australian variants of the English language. The results of the research represented in the article are achieved by instrumental analysis .
