Abstract.
The problem of interaction of fiction and oral folk arts has always been and still remains relevant both for Mari and national literary criticism. Mari literature of the second half of the XX century introduces a variety of options for using ethno-poetical traditions. One of the authors who managed to represent the essence of national way of thinking and national character is V. I. Boyarinova. Her individuality and ethno-poetical originality of her prose has not received sufficient attention from Mari researchers. There are papers only on poetical works by V. Boyarinova. The article tries to investigate folkloric and ethnographical traditions in the story “ ™штº ” (“Belt”).
