Abstract.
The article examines the nature of L. N. Tolstoy’s folklorism. Folk view in his war stories acquires universal nature, universal esthetic existence manifesting itself at various levels of the literary work. From this standpoint the author attaches great importance to the early works (1851-1855), when the process of the formation of Tolstoy-writer, the development of his world outlook and artistic method began.
