Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of Nigerian press represented by the private and national newspapers and magazines which to a certain extent cover the problems of higher education in the country. The authors pay special attention to genre diversity of the publicistic materials represented both by brief surveys and notes, interviews and serious informational and analytical articles. The paper emphasizes that university teachers come out as the authors equally with the professional journalists.
