Abstract.
The article analyzes the semantic characteristics of the Yiddish verbs with the prefix aher- and it is shown that these prefixal verbs completely preserved the semantics of the corresponding verbs in the German source language. It is also proposed to consider aher as a separable prefix in generating verbs of motion, direct effect and process without prefixes. It withdraws the problematic issue of Germanic studies on its classification as adverbs or prefixes.
