Abstract.
This paper considers the problem of searching for suitable equivalents of English vocabulary in the sphere of occupations names. The author analyzes the semantic differences of definitions «profession», «occupation», «job», «position». The author argues in favour of the idea that while translating from English into Russian one should take into consideration the specificity of word meaning and choose Russian equivalent that most accurately reflects English reality. Such point of view will be of interest to specialists in the field of theory of translation and in English language teaching.
