Abstract.
The article describes one of the episodes of the novel “The Cursed and the Slain” - the show trial of soldier Zelentsov. The researcher emphasizes that this episode is theatrical, that is all the action is built according to the laws of theatrics and constitutes a farcical spectacle. The main features of farce genre originating in carnival culture and their functioning in the episode in court are singled out when analyzing.
