THE PRAGMATIC CONTENT OF DIRECT AND INDIRECT EVALUATING STATEMENTS

Abstract.
In the article the pragma-linguistic analysis of the examples of direct and indirect evaluating statements in the English dialogical speech is conducted and some illocutionary purposes typical for them are identified. The author considers the motivations of using direct or indirect tactics of speech behavior and the motivation of deliberate overstatement and understatement of assessment.
