Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of the formation of socio-cultural competency of students-non-philologists studying the Arabic language. Special attention is paid to the proverbs and sayings, the use of which as a learning material is caused not only by the general methodological principles, but also explained by the specificity of the linguistic situation in the Arabic world, peculiarities of the mentality of the Arabs.
