Abstract. The article touches on the theoretical and methodological issues of teaching reviewing and summarizing scientific and technical literature to senior undergraduates at the non-linguistic higher education establishment. The author characterizes the existing techniques of reviewing and summarizing, generalizes the types of tasks aimed to form necessary skills and abilities while reviewing, introduces the methods of the compression of the original source.
