Abstract. In the article the issue of verbalization of the concept which reflects the value orientations of society is considered, the priorities of the moral, ethical preferences which are taken into account in the realization of cross-cultural competence are presented. The analysis is carried out by the example of the study of the concept “bankruptcy”. The author singles out the cognitive features of the concept, identifies the similarity and differences of semantic content in modern national consciousness that allows representing the “ethnic and cultural specificity” of the concept involving in the formation of the national character of the Russian, the Britisher and the Frenchman.
