Abstract. The article examines the issues of implementing performativity by the composite combinations “If I may + an assertive verb”. The capability of such combinations to performativity is based on their perception as indirect speech acts; this in itself implies that performatives of such type have a highly conventional character. Nevertheless the author comes to the conclusion that the capability of implementing the performativity by the statements with these combinations have concrete semantic-syntactic limitations.
