Abstract.
The article examines historical realia of the Russian provincial life of the lean 19
th year of the XX century. Prishvin applies to a myth formula to create a comprehensive and ambivalent description of a metaphysical battle of a “Christ-like potential of a human being and satanic darkness”. The system of binary oppositions, in particular, opposition light/darkness becomes the most adequate means to implement the national phenomenon in Prishvin’s discourse.
