Abstract.
The article reveals the features of the English verbs formed by non-affixal method from toponyms, and their role in the representation of space. It is shown that verbs are characterized by semantic heterogeneity, opacity of semantics, semantic mobility, instability in time, and specific method to put the characteristic in the focus of attention. The idea is substantiated that these features are conditioned by the conceptual complexity of nouns-stems, and the origin of verbs demonstrates the consolidation of speakers’ attitude to the object of space in linguistic consciousness.
