Abstract.
The article provides discursive analysis of the specifics of using the metaphor of chess as a means to create an image of Russia in the American political discourse. Metaphorical conceptualization of Russian foreign policy as a skilful chess game conditions the propagation and maintenance of the historical and cultural conceptions of Russia as an ideological, political and economical rival of the USA, source of potential danger for Western countries.
