TRAVEL STORIES IN G. I. USPENSKY‘S ARTISTIC WORLD

Abstract.
The article examines one of the meaningful but practically unexplored themes of G. I. Uspensky’s creative work - the theme of travel and pilgrimage. The recent studies tried to analyze the road chronotope in the writer’s artistic world but, first of all, in correlation with genre specifics of the works: as one of the basic elements of a “travel genre” modified by G. I. Uspensky. The paper considers the mentioned theme in correlation with the figurative system of the stories-essays. The author for the first time identifies two basic forms of reality in the writer’s artistic world - the reality of a travel and the reality of a “sleepy”, “dead” existence of the cities and villages. In this connection the researcher clarifies the conception of the "God's fool" images in G. I. Uspensky’s stories-essays both of the early period and of the 70-80s of the XIX century.
