Abstract.
The article examines the works by Yu. K. Olesha “Not a day without a line” and “The Book of Farewell”, which are extremely distinctive in its genre nature. The peculiarity of these books is in the fact that they represent not a diary genre in its classical kind, but some of its transformation. The author of the article substantiates that Yu. K. Olesha created peculiar literary works, he wrote not just a diary with the fixation of happening events, but created some integral text, based on plausible diary records, in which there are memoirs about himself, thoughts about contemporaneity and creative work of writers of different epochs.
