Abstract. The article presents the study of two variants of translations of the work by Boris Akunin “The State Counsellor”, being examined as intertexts of the original with the purpose to achieve the right comprehension and evaluation of the translation-intertext on the whole and the variability of the translations in particular. The translation units are compared with the pretext and are defined as intertext units. The elements of the category, taken in a complex, allow analyzing and evaluating the whole text for translation, and also comparing different variants of translation.
