DEAD METAPHOR IN MODERN SCIENTIFIC-TECHNICAL TEXT (BY THE EXAMPLE OF TEXTS ON MECHANICAL ENGINEERING)

Abstract. The article considers the dead metaphors, often found in scientific and technical texts in the sphere of mechanical engineering. Metaphorical terms constitute a technical vocabulary in this section. Examples of dead metaphors and metaphorical terms from modern scientific and technical texts are given. A lot of dead metaphors are clichés. Metaphors help professionals explain and describe complex processes. Metaphorical meaning depends on the context. Dead metaphors come alive in the thinking process.
