COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF TYPICAL STRATEGIES OF POLITENESS IN THE DISCOURSE OF TALK SHOWS IN THE USA AND RUSSIA

Abstract. The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of typical politeness strategies used in the discourse of talk shows in the USA and Russia. Despite the active use of the provisions of the theory of politeness in linguistic researches, it is not practically in demand among Russian authors from the perspective of the study of institutional discourse, which, according to V. I. Karasik’s classification, is a discourse of talk shows. The most frequently used strategies of politeness have been singled out by means of the analysis of 120 hours of video of such talk shows as “Meet the Press”, “Live Broadcast” and others.
