ELLIPTIC CONSTRUCTIONS FUNCTIONING IN ENGLISH TEXT MESSAGES (SMS)

Abstract.
The article deals with text messages, which are partial syntactic constructions, by the material of the English part of the SMS corpus developed at the National University of Singapore. The purpose of the paper is to study the structure of text messages, within the framework of which such characteristic feature of messages as ellipsis is considered. The analysis of text messages allows determining the characteristics of SMS-language and establishing that the elliptic constructions of SMS-messages bring closer this kind of communication to the spoken language.
