Abstract.
In the novel “Money: A Suicide Note” (“Money” according to the Russian translation) Martin Amis sarcastically makes fun of the generation of yappy, concentrated only on unrestrained consumption and negating any social responsibility. New principles of Thatcher’s economy, despite the objective of regeneration and strengthening of national self-awareness set by her, have had fatal impact on the British according to the writer. The paper pays attention to such problems of the novel as destruction of the integrity of “self” in the epoch of Thatcherism. The dependence of the process of deformation of selfhood from the organization of the city space is revealed. The motive of redundancy, distinctive to the image of modern London, its functional significance in revealing the problem of identity loss is considered.
