Abstract.
In the article the understanding of the role of fiction in belles-lettres by the modern English writer Michael Frayn (born in 1993) is considered. The author's view on the relation between the truth and fiction in the works in correlation with the new historicism is analyzed. The peculiar role of the narrator of the temporal plan of the narrative and the role of the relations between the author and the reader are singled out. The attempt to analyze the categories of fiction and the truth on the basis of the theoretical work of M. Frayn “The Human Touch” (2006) is made.
