Abstract.
In the article the syntactic structure of the free indirect speech is considered. The author shows that the syntactically the free indirect speech can be represented by interrogative and exclamatory sentences, elliptical, parcelled constructions, syntactic links, repetition, mononuclear sentences and so on. It is proved that the syntactic construction of the free indirect speech helps the writer to reveal the complex spiritual world of the characters, their inner experiences, and to show the search for the proper solutions.
