Abstract. The article provides an analysis of the essays by the learners of the course “English for Cambridge FCE Exam” organized in the Institute of Physics and Technology of the National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University in the 2014-2015 academic year by the teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages. The authors identify the most typical mistakes and conclude on the probationers’ satisfactory training to perform this exam task.
