Abstract.
In the article the attempt to identify the key and indirect indicators of the dominant of the existential consciousness in N. Teffy’s short stories during the emigrant period by analyzing their tragicomic nature through the prism of the new attitude of the writer is made. The author mentions the ideological and cultural values of the emigrants of the first wave, the domestic and psychological difficulties that accompany the assimilation in the new environment; and considers their interrelation with the changes in the world outlook and creativity of the writer.
