Abstract.
The article analyzes the process of interaction of a short story and a novel as one of the tendencies of the development of the English novella genre of the 20-30s of the XX century. By the example of the works by V. Woolf, J. Joyce and D. H. Lawrence the vector of movement from a short story to a novel is examined when a small genre acts as a foundation which literary techniques are developed on. Then they find their expression in a novel prose.
