Abstract. The article deals with the phenomenon of intertextuality as a means of expression of the author's sense, considered by the example of T. N. Tolstaya’s short fiction. The aim of the article is to study a number of the writer’s early stories in terms of the presence of allusions and citations in them as the forms of intertextuality. The study reveals the main techniques of the postmodern intertextuality, such as parodying of plots, comic rethinking, etc. It was found that intertextuality peculiar to T. N. Tolstaya’s early prose contributes to the extension of the semantic boundaries and the convergence of classic and popular literature.
