Abstract.
The article deals with the issues related to the so-called “poetry of sorrow”, where not only troubles and sufferings of the Balkars during the deportation years but also all their hopes and aspirations can be found. The author makes an attempt to analyze the works of the famous Balkar poet K. Otarov, and identifies that the creative personality of the poet is associated with the character and psychology of his ethnic group that has clearly developed its world view, mentality, special opinion on environment, people, without which it is impossible to understand the artistic originality of the poet to the full extent.
