CATEGORIES OF APPRAISAL AND ADDRESSING IN ENGLISH NEWSPAPER ARTICLES

Abstract.
This paper considers the category of appraisal in newspaper articles. In the analysis of newspaper articles the targeted orientation of texts is taken into account, since the choice of lexical means in the process of writing an article depends on the addressee, for whom it is intended. The author carries out a practical analysis of newspaper articles devoted to the problems of the categories of appraisal and addressing. The analysis is based on the material of the articles of British and American newspapers. The study concludes that the category of appraisal depends on the orientation of the text. The author also proposes a three-level model of appraisal.
