FRENCH LOAN WORDS OF THE XX CENTURY IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: SEMANTIC ANALYSIS

Abstract.
The article presents the results of the semantic analysis of 222 French loan words of the XX century in the English language, taken out from the etymological online-dictionary by D. Harper. The thematic classification allows defining 12 main subject areas, which have enriched the vocabulary due to them. According to the degree of assimilation the words of the French origin have been referred to fully assimilated, partly assimilated and not assimilated loan words. The main ways of the word-formation of the vocabulary under examination are determined.
